It is a way to tighten the relationship between the pet and the owner as well as to know the habit until they grow up. So, is the treatment between baby leopard gecko and the adults is kind of different? Actually, it is not although in some matters you should give more attention to the babies. So, here they are.

 

The House

When the level is increased for more than 40%, you can blow it with the fan or replace the water tank into the smaller one. Leopard gecko, in general, has a problem in a moist and humid environment. Dirty house can give so many problems for this animal although leopard gecko itself is actually not easy suffered from diseases. Particularly for the babies, diseases caused by the dirty environment are reasons why they cannot survive longer.

 

The Foods

The best foods for leopard gecko are insects for sure. Despite they indeed like it, insects are contained with high level of protein and it is really good for their growth. Adult leopard geckos need from 5 to 10 insects per day whether it is grasshopper, caterpillar, and any others. for the babies, they need less than that; around 4-5 insects are enough actually to avoid them being obesity. The obesity of leopard gecko can be seen from its tail. Yes, the fat is accumulated there and it is usually larger than the body. Surely, this number should be added along with their growth into adults.

 

What you need to pay attention more if the babies are eating less than that. For the slow eaters, you can help then by putting smaller tray with caterpillars and then monitor them. But at the same time, remove it after seeing the gecko has drunken it and place it the new one some hours later. As it has been mentioned above, the house cannot be too moist.

 

The Way to Hold

In some cases, you have to hold the baby gecko such as when you want to show this cute animal to your friends. What you need to remember that a baby gecko is still weak. Due to the condition, it is better not to hold the baby leopard geckos until it reaches three inches long. Moreover, you need to let them grow and explore their new surrounding in the first two weeks. After two weeks and three inches long, you are allowed to hold the leopard geckos baby for 5 to 15 minutes only. The purpose of the short hold is to make them know and recognize their owner. The short touch a day is to prevent the baby leopard gecko from stress and injury. Anytime you want to hold the baby gecko, just make sure that you wash your hands or at least hold them in clean hands. It is an important thing to do because this animal is able to absorb bacteria, germs, and dangerous chemicals through its skin. Don’t forget to wash your hands after holding it because your skin can bring the bacteria from the skin of the baby gecko. The most important, don’t ever hold or grab from the tail because they will release their tail and the cutting area might cause infection.

 

The Possible Diseases

For example, some baby leopard geckos are suffered from a metabolic bone disease. This disease commonly attacks baby leopard with the low level of calcium and phosphorus. The ideal ratio of calcium and phosphorous is 2:1. The baby leopard gecko which suffered from the metabolic bone disease has a soft and tender. The gecko becomes weaker, passive, and stop eating. Without proper treatments, the leopard gecko will be death. The main cause of the disease is the lack of vitamin and mineral. The best way to prevent the disease is to give vitamin and mineral supplements while feeding the gecko. If you see the symptoms in your lovely gecko, just bring them to vet right away. The veterinarian will treat the gecko by giving calcium and vitamin D. There is also a possibility that your leopard gecko suffered from GI or gastrointestinal disease. The main cause is because they often eat a little bit of sand to digest insect. The problem happens when the sand stays on their GI tract. As the result, they have low appetite level, weaker, and difficulty to release their stool. Retention of shedding skin is also a common disease. The disease is caused by the lack of humidity. So, it is better not to keep the gecko in the low humidity area. The earlier symptom is that they are dehydrated and there are some patches around their skin, especially their toes and eyes. They will have a low level of appetite, lose their weight drastically, and finally die.
